Neo4j Labs

This is an early-stage, community-driven tool and not part of Neo4j’s supported product lineup. It’s a great way to experiment, but it doesn’t come with Neo4j’s standard support or warranty commitments. See the Neo4j Labs disclaimer.

Installation

In an interactive terminal the installer asks whether to install the agent-skill bundle. For unattended installs prepend NEO4J_CLI_AUTO_INSTALL_SKILL=1 to opt in or =0 to opt out — the same env var is honoured by the npm postinstall and Homebrew formula.

Verify with neo4j-cli --help.

Alternatives

• Homebrew: NEO4J_CLI_AUTO_INSTALL_SKILL=1 brew install neo4j-labs/tap/neo4j-cli (stable releases only; prereleases ship via npm/PyPI).
• npm: NEO4J_CLI_AUTO_INSTALL_SKILL=1 npm i -g @neo4j-labs/cli (also works with pnpm add -g / yarn global add). Prereleases: @alpha, @beta, @rc, @next. Platform matrix: distribution/npm/cli/README.md.
• PyPI: pip install neo4j-cli, pipx install neo4j-cli, or uv tool install neo4j-cli. One-shot: uvx -i neo4j-cli . Pin a prerelease with ==, e.g. pipx install neo4j-cli==0.1.0a6.
• Prebuilt archive: grab your OS/arch from releases, place the binary on your PATH, then run neo4j-cli skill install --rw.

Agent feedback (opt-in)

Builds that include neo4j-cli feedback let coding agents send short reports to the Neo4j team when neo4j-cli gets in their way. It is off by default: nothing is sent until a person agrees.

• Install scripts (install-neo4j-cli.sh, install-neo4j-cli.ps1): in a terminal, the script shows what a report contains and asks [y/N]; the default is No. When there is no terminal, or a coding agent is running the script, it asks nothing and instead registers the feedback tool with Claude Code and Codex, whichever are installed. The tool sends nothing on its own: the first time an agent reports a problem, you are asked to accept or decline. Set NEO4J_CLI_SKIP_FEEDBACK_PROMPT=1 to skip both.
• Homebrew, npm, PyPI and prebuilt archives don’t ask. Run neo4j-cli feedback enable to see exactly what would be sent and to turn it on.
• Each report is checked on your machine before it is sent and rejected if it looks like it contains queries, file paths, connection details, credentials or similar data. The check can’t catch everything (people’s names, for example), so read what you are asked to approve. Every report sent is recorded on your machine; neo4j-cli feedback status shows where.
• Turn it off any time with neo4j-cli feedback disable. Setting DO_NOT_TRACK=1, or turning telemetry off (neo4j-cli config set telemetry false --rw), also switches it off.
