Claude Skills Marketplace

A curated collection of modular, self-contained skills that extend Claude’s capabilities with specialized knowledge across multiple programming languages, development tools, workflow orchestration, and software development best practices.

Quick Start

Add the marketplace and install plugins:

# Add the vinnie357 marketplace
/plugin marketplace add vinnie357/claude-skills

# Install all skills (meta-plugin)

/plugin install extras-claude-code@vinnie357 # Plugin marketplace management tools
/plugin install ansible@vinnie357 # Ansible automation, roles, vault, testing

Verify installation:

/plugin list

Upgrading from claude-code

The plugin claude-code is now extras-claude-code. Skill names change from /claude-code: to /extras-claude-code:.

The marketplace declares the rename in its renames map, which migrates the settings key. For a marketplace added from a git repository, the Claude Code docs state that the renamed plugin reports Plugin "" not cached at until you run the install once in a session. See Migrate users with a renames map.

Observed on one machine, not in the docs: after /plugin marketplace update, the output reported “1 plugin failed to update”, and extras-claude-code was missing from the Installed list.

  1. Run /plugin install extras-claude-code@vinnie357 once. Choose an install scope in the panel that opens.
  2. Run /reload-plugins, or restart open sessions.
  3. Run /plugin list and confirm extras-claude-code appears.

These steps were observed working on one machine, not tested across setups.

What Are Agent Skills?

Agent Skills are organized directories containing instructions, scripts, and resources that Claude can dynamically discover and load. They enable a single general-purpose agent to gain domain-specific expertise without requiring separate custom agents for each use case.

Key Benefits

  • Modularity: Self-contained packages that can be mixed and matched
  • Reusability: Share and distribute expertise across projects and teams
  • Progressive Disclosure: Load context only when needed, keeping interactions efficient
  • Specialization: Deep domain knowledge without sacrificing generality

How Skills Work

Skills operate on progressive disclosure across multiple levels:

  1. Discovery: Agent prompts include only skill names and descriptions
  2. Activation: Claude loads the full SKILL.md when the skill is relevant
  3. Deep Context: Additional files load only when needed for specific scenarios

This tiered approach maintains efficient context windows while supporting complex skill requirements.

Creating Custom Skills

You can contribute skills to existing plugins or create new ones:

Adding to Existing Plugins

  1. Create a new skill directory:

    mkdir -p plugins/languages/elixir/skills/my-skill

  2. Create SKILL.md with YAML frontmatter:

    ---
    name: my-skill
description: Brief description of what this skill helps with
    license: MIT
    ---

    # My Skill

    Instructions and guidance...

  3. Update the plugin’s plugin.json:

    {
      "skills": [
        "./skills/my-skill"
      ]
    }

  4. Document sources in the plugin’s skills/sources.md

See the Agent Skills Specification for complete guidelines.

Plugin Development

The extras-claude-code plugin provides tools for plugin and marketplace development:

  • Complete schema documentation for marketplace.json and plugin.json
  • Nushell validation scripts for automated compliance checking
  • Skills for creating commands, agents, skills, and hooks
  • Template generation and formatting tools

Install it to build your own Claude Code plugins:

/plugin install extras-claude-code@vinnie357

Testing

The repository includes automated validation tests for the marketplace and every plugin (including the all-skills meta-plugin). Run jq '.plugins | length' .claude-plugin/marketplace.json for the current plugin count.

Requirements

  • Nushell - Modern shell for running validation scripts
  • mise - Development tool manager (optional, for running tasks)

Quick Start

# Install mise (if not already installed)
curl https://mise.run | sh

# Run all tests (validates marketplace + every plugin)
mise test

# Test specific plugin
mise test:plugin elixir
mise test:plugin all-skills # Test the meta-plugin

# Test marketplace only
mise test:marketplace

# Test all plugins
mise test:plugins

What Gets Tested

  • Marketplace validation: Required fields, plugin entries, JSON structure
  • Plugin validation (every plugin including all-skills):
    • Name matches the marketplace entry (or root for all-skills), and is not a reserved name
    • No invalid marketplace-only fields
    • Kebab-case naming
    • Skill paths exist

Maintaining the Meta-Plugin

The all-skills meta-plugin aggregates all skills from all other plugins. When you add or remove skills:

# Update all-skills plugin.json with all current skills
mise update-all-skills

# Preview changes first
mise update-all-skills --dry-run

# See detailed output
mise update-all-skills --verbose

This automatically collects all skills from all plugins and updates .claude-plugin/plugin.json.

Without mise

You can run the standalone Nushell scripts directly (test:marketplace and test:claude are inline mise.toml tasks with no standalone script equivalent — run them via mise run test:marketplace / mise run test:claude):

# Specific plugin
nu test/validate-plugin.nu elixir

# Skill quality scorecard
nu test/validate-skills-quality.nu

# Version bump check (requires a base ref to diff against)
nu test/check-version-bumps.nu --base main

# Update all-skills
nu .claude-plugin/scripts/update-all-skills.nu

See test/README.md for complete testing documentation.

Skill Quality Scorecard

Analyze all skills against Anthropic’s best practices:

# Run skill quality checks standalone
mise test:skills-quality

# Or as part of the full test suite (included automatically)
mise test

This produces a scorecard table from four passes (17 per-skill checks, an agents/commands/hooks surface pass, a corpus-wide duplicate-block scan, and a syntax-vs-usage vocabulary cross-check) enforced against a shrink-only ratchet baseline (test/quality-baseline.json) so pre-existing debt can’t regress and new debt can’t be baselined away. See test/README.md for the full list of check keys and their meanings.

Use /benchmark-skills for a more detailed analysis with category classification and quality assessment.

GitHub Actions CI/CD

The repository includes automated CI/CD via GitHub Actions that runs on:

  • Pull requests (all branches)
  • Pushes to main branch

What gets tested:

  • Validates marketplace.json schema
  • Validates all plugin.json files (every plugin registered in .claude-plugin/marketplace.json)
  • Checks skill paths exist
  • Verifies naming conventions

The workflow uses a custom action (.github/actions/validate-marketplace) with caching for fast execution.

Local GitHub Actions Testing

Test the GitHub Actions workflow locally before pushing:

# Start colima (provides Docker for act on macOS)
mise colima:start

# Test pull request workflow
mise test:action:pr

# Test push to main workflow
mise test:action:push

# When done, stop colima
mise colima:stop

Requirements (macOS only):

  • Lima and Colima (installed automatically via mise colima:start)
  • Docker-compatible runtime for running act

Note: Ubuntu/Linux uses native Docker and doesn’t need colima.

Sources and Attribution

Each plugin maintains its own skills/sources.md file documenting the official documentation, guides, and resources used to create the skills.

Primary sources include:

Contributing

Contributions are welcome! To contribute:

  1. Fork the repository
  2. Create a feature branch
  3. Add or improve skills following the Agent Skills Specification
  4. Document sources in the appropriate plugin’s skills/sources.md

Contribution Guidelines

  • Follow progressive disclosure pattern (lean SKILL.md, detailed references/)
  • Use imperative/infinitive form in skill instructions
  • Test skills with real-world scenarios
  • Update plugin.json when adding new skills
