📘 Overview

Model Context Protocol (MCP) is a standardized protocol that allows AI models (like GPT, Claude, etc.) to connect with external tools, APIs, or data sources safely and in a structured way.

It defines how models interact with servers that provide specific tools or information, enabling dynamic tool usage and real-time data access.

⚙️ Key Components

Component Description
MCP Server Provides tools, APIs, or functions that can be called by a model.
MCP Client Connects to an MCP server and invokes its tools.
Tools The actual functions (like get_weather, add_numbers, etc.) exposed by the server.
Transport Layer Defines how client and server communicate (e.g., stdio, sockets, or HTTP).
Agent (AI Model) The AI model that selects and uses the right tools during inference.

🚀 MCP Flow

  1. User sends a request or prompt.
  2. MCP Client forwards it to the Agent (Model).
  3. The Agent analyzes the request and selects the appropriate Tool from the MCP Server.
  4. The Client sends structured data (parameters) to the Server.
  5. Server executes the corresponding function/tool and returns a result.
  6. The Agent processes the result and forms a natural language response back to the User.

Flow Summary:
User → MCP Client → Agent → Tool Selection → MCP Server (Tool Execution) → Response → Agent → User
