README

AgentKit — Complete AI Skills and Developer Platform

Overview

AgentKit is a unified platform for AI agents and coding assistants to discover, install, manage, and use skills, instructions, MCP tools, and developer integrations.

Tech Stack

  • Frontend: Next.js 15 + React + TypeScript + Tailwind CSS
  • Backend: Express + TypeScript + PostgreSQL
  • Auth: JWT + bcrypt password hashing
  • MCP: Model Context Protocol SDK
  • Database: PostgreSQL (Supabase or self-hosted)

Quick Start

# 1. Copy env template
cp .env.template .env

# 2. Install dependencies
npm install

# 3. Run database migrations
npm run db:migrate

# 4. Seed example data
npm run db:seed

# 5. Start development
npm run dev

Configuration

See .env.template for all configuration options. Required variables:

  • DATABASE_URL — PostgreSQL connection string
  • JWT_SECRET — Secret for JWT token signing
  • SUPABASE_URL / SUPABASE_SERVICE_KEY — Supabase credentials (optional)

API Endpoints

Public

  • GET /health — Health check
  • GET /v1/skills — List skills with pagination
  • GET /v1/skills/{id} — Get skill details
  • GET /v1/skills/{id}/versions — List skill versions
  • GET /v1/search?q={query} — Search skills
  • GET /v1/categories — List categories
  • GET /v1/clients — List supported clients

Authenticated

  • POST /v1/keys — Create API key
  • GET /v1/keys — List API keys
  • DELETE /v1/keys/{id} — Revoke API key
  • GET /v1/usage — View usage statistics

Submissions

  • POST /v1/submissions — Submit skill for review
  • GET /v1/submissions — List submissions
  • PATCH /v1/submissions/{id} — Update submission status

MCP Server

The MCP server is available at /mcp with HTTP transport. Tools include:

  • search_skills — Search the skill catalog
  • get_skill — Get skill details
  • get_skill_manifest — Get skill manifest
  • list_compatible_clients — List supported clients
  • get_installation_instructions — Get installation steps
  • list_skill_versions — List skill versions
  • get_platform_docs — Get platform documentation

Security

  • API keys are hashed with bcrypt
  • Rate limiting enforced server-side
  • No arbitrary code execution from submitted skills
  • Input validation on all endpoints
  • Parameterized database queries
  • JWT authentication for protected routes

Testing

npm test

Deployment

See websites/docs/vercel.md for Vercel deployment instructions. See websites/docs/supabase.md for Supabase setup instructions.

Supabase Setup (local development)

  1. Create a Supabase project at https://supabase.com
  2. Configure the following environment variables in .env:
    • SUPABASE_URL=https://your-project.supabase.co
    • SUPABASE_SERVICE_KEY=your_service_role_key
  3. Run database migrations: npm run db:migrate
  4. The schema in backend/migrations/001_init.sql will create all required tables

Vercel Deployment (optional, requires explicit permission)

  1. Install Vercel CLI: npm i -g vercel
  2. Link your account: vercel login
  3. Set environment variables in Vercel dashboard:
    • DATABASE_URL
    • JWT_SECRET
    • SUPABASE_URL
    • SUPABASE_SERVICE_KEY
  4. Deploy: vercel --prod

Do not deploy publicly, change DNS, or incur costs without explicit permission.
